Cooperative Center Federal Credit Union (CCFCU), a California-based credit union with over $140 million in assets was looking for a better solution for handling in-branch cash. Their manual cash handling process was forcing tellers to put in additional hours after closing and running up overtime pay. And, with their plans to transition to a new branch in Berkeley, it was time to address the problem head on.
“We have a lot of members that come into our branch to deposit cash,” said Mark Suacillo, VP of IT, Facilities, and Security for CCFCU, “and prior experience told us the process we were using created a lot of wasted time and energy.”
But any new cash solution would need to do more than save tellers time at the end of the day. It would need to be convenient, easy-to-use and make everyday transactions simpler for credit union employees. And, of course, it would need to integrate with CCFCU’s already existing CORE system.
TCRs to the Rescue
MVP Financial Equipment worked with the credit union to determine the full needs of their cash handling system and recommended CIMA Teller Cash Recyclers (TCRs) for their functionality and reliability.
Now CCFCU utilizes two CIMA AST7000 units to assist their four tellers in their day-to-day tasks. And the TCRs are connected to the credit union’s CORE systems through Add-On Technologies.
Cash Handling Challenge Solved
“The AST7000s have been very reliable. Of course, there were growing pains at first,” said Suacillo, “as there is with any new system. But now all the tellers have completely bought into using the new TCRs."
Instead of the additional 50 minutes to an hour after close to balance cash each day, employees are out the door in as little as 15 minutes.
In addition to the faster end-of-day procedures, tellers spend less time having to manually count money for transactions. Which means they have more time to speak directly to members, discovering other areas where the credit union can help them.
“We knew MVP was always going to give us a great deal,” said Suacillo. “In the end, the decision to go with MVP as our cash recycler provider was a no-brainer.”
